:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kerry Schafer -- I didn't think it possible, but it's even better than the first one : I inhaled this book with a feeling of utter glee and delight. Finished last night just before I went to bed, and woke up wishing I could pop over and have breakfast with Ibrahim and Joyce and Elizabeth and Ron and Bogdan and Donna and the entire cast. These characters are real people to me and I'm pretty sure they exist around the corner somewhere. Then there's the perfectly paced mystery. The perfect blend of humor and understated pathos and commentary about the human condition. The unforeseen twists and turns. I literally wanted to share snippets with somebody the whole time I was reading. More please!!! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Terry Dobbratz -- Even better than the first one! : Its so refreshing to have interesting characters who are in their 70's and 80's, smart, connected, and funny. I want to live where they do! I read book one...The Thursday Murder Club and liked it. Then I read this one and LOVED IT! So I just went back and read Book 1 again and enjoyed it even more the second time. I just wish the author could write the books faster because I dont want to wait a year to see what happens next! Mr Osman has just shot to the top of my lists of favorite mystery writers. Thank you! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lee Killough -- A sequel that's just as much fun as the first book. : Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club was such a fun read (I bought both a kindle and printed copy, which I don't usually do) that I was delighted to have was a second book in the series, The Man Who Died Twice, and waited for it with great anticipation. Happily it did not disappoint me. It's going to be one I re-read when I need a lift. LIke Murder Club it is somehow a cozy and not a cozy, since there is explicit violence and murder on-stage. I think it must be the delightful wittiness of the storytelling that makes it seem cozy. The members of the murder club are all back (Joyce still keeping her diary), plus Chris and Donna from the local police, and the always useful and dark-edged Bogdan. In this second book we learn more about Elizabeth's past as a man from that past appears to ask her help in keeping him alive. Which might be more than Elizabeth can handle, as before long the gang is up to their septuagenarian necks in MI5, gangsters, stolen diamonds, and of course solving multiple murders. - 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kenneth C. Mahieu -- EVERYBODY LOVES THE THURSDAY MURDER MYSTERY CLUB, but ...... : I've read the first book and TMWDT, and I will read #3 when it comes out in the fall of '22, and I'll see the movie when it comes out even if Helen Mirren doesn't play Elizabeth, yet....Well, I'll get to that later. There are so many little things to like about this series. The concept is rather obvious, four residents of a somewhat posh assisted living residence outside London with a joint interest in murder mysteries, specifically actual unsolved cases. Two men, two women - nice balance, though the women have been playing the starring roles so far, the gents are supporting cast. There's also a charming couple playing the local police force, and a number of other characters as the need arises. I must add that all characters are very well done, each is described in considerable detail, and as new ones appear you'll oftentimes hear a little chime from deep inside with a cartoon bubble crying "suspect?" Obvious, but why didn't it occur to me !? ( Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2021 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from dcr -- Another great one! : I can’t wait for the third installment of this series. The characters are funny and the plot is fun to follow. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2021 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Siltone -- Far too much waffling! : It really doesn’t give me any pleasure to write this mainly negative review. I mention that because I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, in fact I gave it a glowing 5 star Amazon review when I read it last year. However, I’m afraid this second outing just didn’t cut the mustard as far as I’m concerned. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 17, 2021 )
- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Kid Ferrous -- It is literally painful to read this book. : This was not what I expected. I had steeled myself for a cozy-crime story which would, no doubt, be awful but at least be a harmless way of passing some time. However, it’s got “serious” bits in it; but this book is more Val Doonican than Val McDermid. There are moments, basically unskilled shifts in tone, which are probably meant to be shocking but are telegraphed pages in advance, and make the attempt at a serious crime novel look leaden and clumsy. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Liz -- Enjoy it for the daft bit of fun that it is : I have read a few negative reviews of this book on here, and in my opinion they all have one thing in common. Namely that they are taking it far too seriously, much more seriously than it is intended to be taken. If this book were a bottle of wine it would be of the popular 'quaffable' variety that wine snobs look down their noses at. In other words, this book, metaphorically speaking, is not intended to be rolled around the inside of a carefully chosen glass, sniffed, gurgled, analysed and picked apart for the benefit of other snobs. It is simply intended to be enjoyed and to make you feel good. On that front it cannot be faulted. I loved it for its daftness and improbability and I read it from start to finish in one sitting. However, if you are hoping for a serious and plausible whodunnit with believable, realistic characters then you are going to be disappointed. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 18, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Caz -- Back with the fabulous four for more first class entertainment. Fun from start to finish : Are you ready for round two of the comic crime capers that come courtesy of Coopers Chase retirement village’s most celebrated residents? Well I certainly was when I picked up the sequel to Richard Osman’s bestselling debut The Thursday Murder Club, having declared it one of my favourite reads of 2020. Exploding onto the amateur detective scene with as much vitality and enthusiasm as four old age pensioners can muster (and it’s a lot!) they won the hearts of readers up and down the country so the chance to catch up with the likes of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim as they wheedle, manipulate, confuse, connive and charm their way through another investigation is an opportunity too good to miss. I’m happy to report that this crime busting quartet led by ex spook Elizabeth are back with a vengeance, hogging the limelight as they engage in some lateral thinking and uproarious antics in order to outsmart the latest round of villains who threaten to darken their doorstep. Even though they are busy with their far from successful surveillance of local drug dealer Connie Johnson, Fairhaven’s finest cops DCI Chris Hudson and his partner PC Donna De Freitas are again on hand to assist our favourite senior citizens especially when Ibrahim becomes the victim of a vicious mugging. Polish builder Bogdan completes the eclectic band of justice seekers determined to solve the mystery behind a letter addressed to Elizabeth that appears to be written from the deceased Marcus Carmichael. A ghost from the past is all it takes to alert our fantastic four to skulduggery within the criminal fraternity in which the recovery of twenty million pounds worth of diamonds is of paramount importance. Move over the A team the OAP team are here to save the day!! ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 15, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from The Cookster -- Better than the first book in the series. : Rating: 4.0/5 ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 15, 2021 )
